There
is no better way to see Vermonts breathtaking
landscape than from a canoe or kayak. Before
a road system was developed in our area, the
Native Americans used the rivers as a major
mode of transportation. We have no doubt that
they mixed a certain element of fun into their
travels! You, too, can experience the freedom
and beauty that they did as you float through
the magnificent Green Mountains.
We
offer self-guided river trips on the Winooski
(wi-noo-skee) and Lamoille (le-moyl) Rivers.
Each has its own majestic characteristics
and we offer trips to suit first-time paddlers
and experts alike! Since you are without a
guide, feel free to take your time and enjoy
the scenery and the water. There are many
places to pull your boat out of the water,
eat a picnic lunch, go swimming, fishing,
take photos, or just soak up the sun. You
can paddle in solo kayaks, tandem kayaks,
or canoes!
How
does it work? After you make a reservation
through our Stowe establishment (can be done
over the telephone) you meet us at the river
outpost 45 minutes prior to your trip time.
You are meeting us at the FINISHING point
of the trip (except the Ethan Allen Winooski
river trip). Then we shuttle you and all of
our canoes and kayaks UPSTREAM to the put-in
spot. Our ACA certified instructors will give
you a few minutes of expert instruction and
river-reading tips and then send you on your
way, self-guided, down to where your car is
parked. You will see a "Umiak Take Out"
sign on the side of the river which is where
the trip finishes. All good things must come
to an end........... A fun and stress-free
way to enjoy Vermont's beautiful landscape!

Lamoille
River
One of the most scenic stretches of river
in the Northeast! This is a gentle, slow-moving
river and is perfect for beginner paddlers.
As you float slowly through the lush New England
landscape you will be awed by views of the
Green Mountains towering above you. Covered
bridges and old farms make this river a true
Vermont treasure. We offer an 8-mile trip,
which takes roughly 4 hours and a 4-mile trip,
which takes about 2 hours.
Winooski
River
The Winooski River is a favorite of wildlife
lovers. As it winds its way through the densely
wooded landscape you may see otters, deer,
or even an occasional moose as they come out
of the woods to drink from the river. The
Winooski is a bird watchers paradise. The
Great Blue Herons and Kingfishers call this
river home because of its incredible fishing.
Anglers enjoy this fact as well.
Waterbury
Outpost Trips
Our
4-mile trip takes roughly 2 hours to paddle
and is a densely wooded section of river.
In the Fall the reflection of the foliage
off the glassy water is something not to be
missed! You'll see magnificent views of Hunger
Mountain and the Worcester Mountain range
as well. It is a very gentle section of river
suitable for first-time paddlers. Ages 5 and
up.
Our
9-mile trip is a more advanced section of
river with 2 sections of Class I/Class II
whitewater rapids. It is a great trip for
experienced or enthusiastic paddlers. This
is a wooded section of river that passes some
magnificent rock formations and through a
breathtaking rock gorge. Great veiws of Camel's
Hump Mountain are also seen throughout this
trip. The trip takes approximately 4 hours.
